Old Greenville County Jail

Greenville Jail (demolished) The old County Jail, a Listed Historic Resource built around 1920. Used to stand at the corner of 32 East Broad Street and Falls Street, one block off of South Main Street. Demolished December 16, 1996 to make room for expansion of a distribution facility for our newspaper, The Greenville News, which is next door to the right in this photo (top).

According to reference books, the jail was completed around 1916. A recent book notes the building was demolished in 1997, but I saw it come down in mid-December,1996. Our current Law Enforcement Center was built in the late 1970s. Enough about jail, okay? Let's not go there.
