Local newspaper, magazine and journal writers do an excellent job covering special events and general artist bio features, however, there are no scholarly art commentary or criticism features.


Attend Greenville's major art related events

First Fridays Gallery Tour This expands hours for these galleries on the first Friday of every month. Go see their website for all the details about First Fridays.

Greenville's Open Studios tour is coming November 3 & 4, 2007, click here to view last year's online exhibition. Planning is well underway for Open Studios 2007. Artist entry deadline was in April and has passed for this year.

Upstate Visual Arts / Art In The Park Festival has mailed artist applications for 2008's Art In The Park with a deadline of August 22, 2007. For info on schedules, eligibility and other requirements, visit artintheparkgreenville.com.

Artisphere Festival Artisphere organizers have mailed artist applications for the 2008 festival with a deadline of October 20, 2007. Visit the official Artisphere website at www.artisphere.us


Art publications of interest for the upstate sc area

The South Carolina Arts Commission has discontinued the Articfacts quarterly newsletter due to substantial cuts to the agency's budget, changing technology, and its high cost. You may now reference SouthCarolinaArts.com for information online.
Look for marketing opportunities for South Carolina Artists produced by the SC Arts Commission. Information on grants, programs, arts calendar, and more. Due to the recent reduction of state funds to the Arts Commission, Untitled is currently produced in web-only format. For further info call 803-734-8696.

Carolina Arts - Carolina Arts is a publication covering the arts in the Carolinas. Originating out of Charleston, the paper covers listings for South Carolina and North Carolina galleries. FREE at newsstands. Hard to find in Greenville, visit the Metropolitan Arts Council, the Upstate Visual Arts office for regular copies, or check newsstands.

theBEAT - Area alternative newspaper, featues limited art coverage through occasional reviews and event listings. Available at newsstands. FREE.

The Greenville News - Greenville's newspaper. Occasional bio features of area artists and exhibitions. Ann Hicks, arts writer.

The State newspaper - (Columbia SC's newspaper). Watch Sunday papers for art writing and criticism on regional art (and more) by State writer Jeffrey Day. Available by subscription or at book store newspaper newsstands.

Art Papers Magazine - Published in Atlanta, is the only major critical arts journal published in the Southeast.

Arts Daily, a SC Arts Commission listing of calendar events. Also of interest: the South Carolina Educational Radio Network's "Arts Daily" is a good source of statewide info.
