The Bone Man (from the "road trip" file) The Bone Doctor (or the Bone Man) has absolutely nothing to do with Greenville, SC, but we just have to share this with you. While driving through eastern North Carolina, on his way to Holden Beach, Patrick Jones (of Greenville) saw a hand painted sign marking the home of the Bone Doctor. This man who calls himself the Bone Doctor, is a kind of witch-doctor (self described). People come to see him and he gives them, "Messages and other visions." He talks about spells and other strange things, but nothing like voodoo; actually he prefers to think of himself as a preacher. On one wall of a shed is painted, "Drugs are dang." He says he didn't know how to spell dangerous, so he abbreviated it. The Bone Doctor has displays of skulls and bones all around his house and yard and he says some are dinosaur bones over 400 years old (...yep, he said four hundred years). It wasn't clear how he used the bones in his preaching. The Bone Doctor didn't mind pictures being taken, although he seemed a bit uneasy about it. This visit to the Bone Doctor was several years ago and quite a long drive from Greenville, so we're not able to confirm a lot of information about the Bone Doctor. If you can tell us anything about him, please let us know. Too bad Greenville doesn't have more folks like the Bone Doctor. Maybe they're out there? Let us know. --gs |
