Trinity Behrends Title: Vehicle Two Studio: Directions: From Downtown Greenville, take East Park Street, cross over Laurens Road. Park Street becomes E. North Street. Continue on E. North Street until you see the Francis Ashbury Methodist Church on the right. 1806 is next door. Park at the church. Artist Statement: I study architecture in landscape and consider its mark of human evidence. The pairing that we find so pleasing is what I try to explore in my work. I am interested is the dichotomy of the organic and synthetic in the same visual field. Utilizing drawing, painting and collage, I attempt to layer these two elements into one piece. The deep satisfaction derived from seeing a man made structure in lush natural surroundings intrigues me. I am not interested in duplicating such a scene but instead distilling the elements that make it appealing. This is an abstract exploration with the occasional representational detail. The resulting work contains an initial impact as well as reward for further investigation. |
