Artist Statement:
It starts with film, always film.
And it ends in the darkroom, always the darkroom.
My photos are of objects, found and photographically captured in the environments in which they reside: thrift shops, antique stores, city streets, friends’ houses. This photographic exploration of place -- or more appropriately, the stuff of a place -- takes the object and transforms it into a breathing entity that becomes something more than what it was in its mere existence as the object on a table, the item on the shelf, the thing on the floor.
I shoot in black and white, often adding color later through toning. The actual photo-taking is only the beginning of producing a final image. It is with the magic of the darkroom that the photographs really come alive.
